Beautiful Victorian gold tone metal horseshoe brooch with lovely decorative details. The brooch has a c clasp and pin indicative of the era.

The horseshoe as a symbol of luck dates back to ancient times where it was believed that the crescent shape of the horseshoe could ward off evil spirits, making it a popular talisman for protection. In the Victorian era the horseshoe not only represented luck and protection but also strength, stability and resilience. Jewellery featuring horseshoe motifs became particularly fashionable when sentimentality and symbolism were highly prized.

Brooches were extremely popular in Victorian/Edwardian times and were often placed on ribbon around the wearer's neck to create 'colliers de chien' or ‘dog collar’.

The brooch measures 3.5cm x 3cm.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This gorgeous brooch is in good antique condition.
