Antique 9ct Gold And Ruby Paste Bar Brooch

$150.00

Very pretty Edwardian 9ct gold bar brooch with a beautiful set red paste stone.

Paste jewellery gained popularity in the 18th century and continued through the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian eras. The stones were made from lead glass, which gave them a high refractive index and brilliance. They were an affordable alternative to precious gems, making them accessible to a wider range of people.

Brooches were extremely popular in Victorian/Edwardian times and were often placed on ribbon around the wearer's neck to create 'colliers de chien' or ‘dog collar’. They are now having a massive resurgence and can add individuality to your outfit. Pin them on your favourite denim jacket, shirt or sweater to instantly elevate your style. These type of bar brooches have a variety of uses. They can be used to extend chains, join bracelets to make a necklace or you can add charms to them to create a unique pin brooch.

The brooch measures 5cm.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This brooch is not hallmarked but has been acid tested for gold.
