SOLD Vintage Rolled Gold And Mother Of Pearl Necklace

This pretty necklace features a vintage rolled gold and mother pearl locket. It is probably from the 1930's and features a gold star in the middle of the inset mother of pearl and the back is stamped rolled gold. I have added pearl and crystal charms and put it on a heavily gold plated sterling silver curb chain to create a truly unique, beautiful necklace. 

Container jewellery to house tokens and special items have been around since Egyptian times and the first  “lockets” held medicinal herbs, religious relics, prayers or perfumes. Elizabeth 1 is thought to have owned one of the first sentimental lockets which was a ring depicting tiny portraits of both herself and her mother Anne Boleyn. Before the invention of photography locks of hair were often put in lockets to remind you of loved ones. The popularity of lockets as a keepsake grew with the widespread use of photography and endures today.

The locket measures 3cm including the bail) and the chain is adjustable measuring 40, 42 or 45cm.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. This locket is in great vintage condition and opens and shuts firmly.
