$145.00
Art Deco metal propelling pencil with a sterling silver, dyed ruby heart and pearl charms with gold highlights on a sterling silver ball chain. The pencil is marked made in England and is in good working order. A totally unique and stunning necklace which would make unique gift.
Propelling pencils were first manufactured in the early 19th century and were often one of the components of a ladies chatelaine. A chatelaine was generally carried by the lady of the house and was a decorative belt hook or clasp worn at the waist with a series of chains suspended from it. Each chain was mounted with useful household items such as scissors, thimbles, watches, keys, small purses, stamp cases and pencils.
The propelling pencil measures 7cm (including the ring) and the total length of the chain is 55cm.
This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. The propelling pencil is in excellent vintage condition.
