Beautiful vintage 1930/40's hand painted early plastic Gentian flower brooch in very good vintage condition. The flower itself is a lovely vibrant blue with a yellow stamen and green leaves. The paintwork is all intact and the pin works well.
These type of brooches were often bought as Alpine tourist souvenirs from countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Gentian wildflower flourishes in harsh, high altitude regions of Europe and Asia and in Victorian times symbolised integrity, strength and victory over adversity.
My daughter bought me one very similar to this and I love it! I wear it on denim and it looks fabulous.
