Victorian Silver Aesthetic Movement Brooch

$95.00

Gorgeous sterling silver aesthetic design brooch featuring floral details. The brooch has a c clasp and pin indicative of the era and is hallmarked Birmingham 1887 with the makers mark R&M for Robinson & Mckewan of Hockley St, Birmingham.

The Aesthetic Movement in Britain (1860 – 1900) aimed to escape the ugliness and materialism of the Industrial Age. The philosophy championed "art for arts sake" therefore believing art and literature only needed to be beautiful and did not necessarily need to carry a deeper meaning.

Brooches were extremely popular in Victorian/Edwardian times and were often placed on ribbon around the wearer's neck to create a colliers de chien or ‘dog collar’. Brooches are having a comeback and look amazing on denim and more formal jackets. They are a quick and easy way to add individual style to your outfit.

The brooch measures 4cm x 2cm.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This gorgeous brooch is in good antique condition.
