An unusual silver plated Victorian locket with the words Forget Me Not and decorative details. The locket opens to reveal 2 compartments to hold 2 photos. A gorgeous piece of Victorian sentimental jewellery.

The locket has its original jumpring so that you can add it to your own chain or you can pick a chain or pearl necklace from my Chains And Pearls collection.

Symbolism was very important in Victorian jewellery and Forget Me Not jewellery was very popular. Often featuring forget me not flowers this sentiment was a reflection of unwavering loyalty as well as featuring in mourning jewellery. 

Container jewellery to house tokens and special items have been around since Egyptian times and the first  “lockets” held medicinal herbs, religious relics, prayers or perfumes. Elizabeth 1 is thought to have owned one of the first sentimental lockets which was a ring depicting tiny portraits of both herself and her mother Anne Boleyn. Before the invention of photography locks of hair were often put in lockets to remind you of loved ones. The popularity of lockets as a keepsake grew with the widespread use of photography and endures today.

The locket measures 3.5cm x 2cm.
