This beautifully detailed antique sterling silver and rose gold brooch features the words "Best Wishes" in raised lettering and a lovely raised bow surrounded by forget me not flowers. It is hallmarked Birmingham 1900 with the makers mark SBros for Sydenham Brothers of Tenby St, Birmingham.
The central bow symbolises love and steadfast affection and the forget-me-not flowers symbolises enduring love and remembrance.
The brooch it is a stuuning example of Victorian sweetheart brooches.
Sweetheart brooches were given as tokens of love by soldiers to their loved one before they entered active service. They were often also given to Mother's and other family members as keepsakes to remember the giver by.
Brooches were extremely popular in Victorian/Edwardian times and were often placed on ribbon around the wearer's neck to create a colliers de chien or ‘dog collar’. Brooches are now having a comeback and are a great way to add some individual style to your outfit.
The brooch measures 5cm.
