Antique Victorian Starburst And Bow Brooch c 1890
$110.00
Lovely late Victorian rolled gold celestial starburst and bow brooch. The brooch has a beautiful rosey glow and features a split seed pearl in the centre of the starburst. It has a period appropriate extended pin stem with a classic antique tube hinge and "C" clasp mechanism.
During the late 1800s, celestial jewellery exploded in popularity across Europe. Starbursts and compass designs were worn as symbols of guidance, direction, and spiritual focus.
Sweetheart brooches were given as tokens of love by soldiers to their loved one before they entered active service. They were often also given to Mother's and other family members as keepsakes to remember the giver by.
Brooches were extremely popular in Victorian/Edwardian times and were often placed on ribbon around the wearer's neck to create a colliers de chien or ‘dog collar’. Brooches are now having a comeback and are a great way to add some individual style to your outfit.
The brooch measures 3cm.
This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This gorgeous brooch is in great antique condition with a rich aged patina.
