A gorgeous late Victorian miniature wax seal fob, circa 1880. Originally designed to hang from a gentleman's watch chain, this pocket-sized piece can be worn today as a unique charm or  pendant on your favourite chain.

The fob seal tests as silver with a hand-engraved chevron barrel and decorative foliate scrolling around the collar. There are no hallmarks but this was common for small silver objects like this. The base features a smooth, uncarved pale purple paste cabochon traditionally left blank so the owner could customise it with their own initials or crest.

A fob is an adornment or a seal that hung from the ribbon or chain of a Gentleman's pocket watch. Its purpose was to decorate or add weight to the watch chain. 

The seal fob measures 2cm.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This fob is in excellent antique condition with a lovely natural aged patina.
