Antique Edwardian 1911 Sterling Silver Vesta Case Locket Pendant

$235.00

Beautiful sterling silver vesta case hallmarked Birmingham 1911 with the makers mark WHH for the famous silverware makers William Hair Haseler of Vyse St Birmingham.

This vesta case is in great antique condition with beautiful flourish engraving. The spring loaded hinged lid closes well with a snap.

In 1870, Haseler founded the company, W. H. Haseler & Co., specializing in gold and silver work, and jewellery. Five years later, Arthur Lasenby Liberty opened a shop on the corner of Regent Street in London which soon became the most fashionable place to shop in London. During the 1890s, Liberty formed relationships with many leading English designers and manufacturers including William Haseler. His pieces can be found in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, as well as many other museums throughout England.

The vesta case has it original jumpring and looks great on a pearl necklace, silver watch chain or standard chain.

Vesta Cases were small portable boxes used to carry vestas (short matches) and were carried by men and women alike. So called after the name of one of the early makers (which was taken from the goddess Vesta, a Roman deity of fire and the hearth), they came into use around the 1830s and were produced extensively between 1890 and 1920. Worn today vesta cases become unique lockets to hold memories and mementos.

The vesta case measures 4cm x 3cm.
