Unique silver plated or continental silver chatelaine pocket pencil with an applied 2 tone figural relief of a traditional shrimp fisher woman or crevettariere and its original pencil. I have put it on a contemporary Italian sterling silver curb chain.
Dating from c1900, this beautiful object is most likely to have been a holiday souvenir from the coastal town of Calais in Northern France. It has beautiful fine pinstripe details, the figure of the crevettariere and the word Calais engraved on the casing.
The woman is beautifully depicted carrying her wide-framed push net over her shoulder and holding a woven harvest basket in her hand. It was originally designed to hang from a lady’s chatelaine belt. A beautiful and unique piece of Belle Epoque history.
The pencil holder measures 7.5cm including the ring and the modern chain measures 50cm.
