This product is sold out

Beautiful silver faith, hope and charity brooch featuring a cross and anchor with gorgeous floral engraving and heart with a red set stone. The brooch has a c clasp and pin indicative of the era and is hallmarked Chester 191 with the makers mark AJS for Arthur Johnson Smith.

The three symbols on the brooch are believed to capture the essence of life. The cross for faith, anchor for hope and the heart for love or charity and were not surprisingly very popular during the Victorian period when symbolic jewellery was at its height.

Sweetheart brooches were given as tokens of love by soldiers to their loved one before they entered active service. They were often also given to Mother's and other family members as keepsakes to remember the giver by.

Brooches were extremely popular in Victorian/Edwardian times and were often placed on ribbon around the wearer's neck to create a colliers de chien or ‘dog collar’. Brooches are now having a comeback and are a great way to add some individual style to your outfit.

The brooch measures 3.5cm.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This gorgeous brooch is in good antique condition. It appears that the c part of the clasp has been replaced at some stage.
