This stunning necklace features a sterling silver shield watch fob on hand wired freshwater pearls, crystals and gemstones and a sterling silver fob clasp. The watch fob is hallmarked Birmingham 1935 and has the makers mark WA for William Adams of Barr St, Birmingham. It is blank on the back and the front cartouche is also blank, an unusual feature of these type of medallions as they often have initial engravings or inscriptions.
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hung from the ribbon or chain of a Gentleman's pocket watch. Its purpose was to decorate or add weight to the watch chain. Watch fob pendants were often given as prizes or to commemorate a special occasion or event.
The necklace (without the fob) measures 50cm. The watch fob measures 3.5cm x 2.5cm.
This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This watch fob is in great vintage condition.
