This beautiful necklace features an 1898 sterling silver watch fob on a handwired sterling silver, pearl and gold fill chain. The fob is blank on both sides, an unusual feature of these type of medallions as they often have initial engravings or inscriptions. It is hallmarked Birmingham 1898 and has the makers mark W.H.H for William Hair Haseler of Vyse St, Birmingham.
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hung from the ribbon or chain of a Gentleman's pocket watch. Its purpose was to decorate or add weight to the watch chain. Watch fob pendants were often given as prizes or to commemorate a special occasion or event.
The fob measures 4cm x 2.3cm (including the large original ring), the total length of the chain is 57cm
This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This fob is in excellent antique condition.
