Rare Antique Silver Tortoiseshell Pendant Necklace
$435.00
Beautiful and rare antique sterling silver and tortoiseshell pendant on a contemporary sterling silver box chain. The pendant is in a teardrop shape with sterling silver floral cutout inlay. It has clear hallmarks for Birmingham 1924 and the makers mark W.H.H. for William Hair Haseler of Vyse St, Birmingham. This piece may well have been sold in Liberty in London in the 1920's.
In 1870, Haseler founded the company, W. H. Haseler & Co., specializing in gold and silver work, and jewellery. Five years later, Arthur Lasenby Liberty opened a shop on the corner of Regent Street in London which soon became the most fashionable place to shop in London. During the 1890s, Liberty formed relationships with many leading English designers and manufacturers including William Haseler. William Hair Haseler died in December 1909 but his company continued in partnership with Liberty until 1926. Haseler pieces can be found in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, as well as many other museums throughout England.
The pendant measures 4cm x 3cm and the chain measures 70cm.
