Antique Continental Silver Curb Link Guard Chain

Lovely antique silver curb link guard chain with swivel albert clip. The clip is stamped sterling suggesting it has Continental Europe or American origins from the late 1900's or early 20th century. 

The chain is a total of 140cm inclusive of the albert clip and weighs 20g. This length is typical of guard or muff chains. These type of chains were worn to "guard" special items such as pocket watches, glasses or keys and preventing them from being lost or stolen. They were also used to hold a muff or hand warmer round the neck or as a piece of jewellery by hanging lockets or charms to the clip. The chain can be wrapped twice round the neck to create a versatile and beautiful piece of chain to showcase your favourite pendants.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This guard chain necklace is in great antique condition with natural patina. It may appear twisted in places but once worn gravity allows these twists to disappear and the chain hangs perfectly. This is normal with this type of chain.
