Shoe buckles were worn from the 17th century right through to the late 19th century. Although at first just a practical fastener these buckles soon developed into a sign of wealth and prosperity. They became a symbol of status, especially in France where they were targeted during the French revolution. The revolutionaries were said to chant "Down with the aristocrat shoe buckles!"
This is a totally unique and special bracelet.
The bracelet measures 19cm.
This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. All of these buckles are in excellent antique condition.
