Stunning vintage Trifari gold tone and white lucite leaf brooch from the 1960's. An elegant and timeless piece of jewellery.
Trifari was established by Italian Gustavo Trifari, Leo Krussman and Carl Fishel in 1925. The company began by creating jewellery for actors in Hollywood, which raised the profile of the brand. It also capitalised on the increase in interest in costume jewellery, which came about during the Great Depression, when women couldn’t afford expensive fine jewellery.
When renowned French jewellery designer Alfred Philippe (formerly at Van Cleef and Arpels) became involved in the design house, Trifari was transformed. Philippe remained at Trifari until his retirement in 1968 and it’s largely due to his vision that Trifari became a household name with pieces that are still collectible today.
Around 1937 Trifari began to add a crown to its hallmarks, prior to this just a T was present. This piece has the crown hallmark over the T and a c indication it was made between 1955 and 1969. Trifari prided itself on marking every single piece it produced. In 2000 Trifari was taken over by Liz Claiborne and the Trifari signature disappeared.
