Lovely antique sterling silver and agate anchor brooch with beautiful hand engraving and a c clasp and pin indicative of the era. The brooch is hallmarked Birmingham 1918 and has the makers mark W.J & S for W Johnson and Son Ltd of Clifford St, Birmingham.
The anchor was a popular motif in Victorian jewellery. It represented hope, steadfastness and stability. Not surprisingly it was a especially popular with sailors and their loved ones symbolising their hope for a safe return from long voyages.
THe brooch is 4cm in length.
This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This pretty anchor brooch is in great antique condition.
