Antique 9ct Gold Carpenter & Westley Pince Nez Pendant

$450.00

I was excited to find these rare antique 9ct gold pince nez glasses from c1860 in a little antique store in Petworth in the UK. The glasses have a beautiful scroll handle and open with a sliding mechanism to reveal a pair of magnified lens. They are marked Carpenter & Westley of 24 Regent St, London and have been tested for 9ct gold.

A stunning antique object they would look great hanging from a gold chain to create a unique necklace.

Carpenter & Westley were an important optical, scientific and mathematical instrument company, originally founded by Philip Carpenter in 1818. The company manufactured Brewsters Kaleidoscope and developed copper plate printing for use in magic lanterns. After Philip's death in 1833 his sister Mary took over the company along with William Westley. Carpenter & Westley concentrated on sales rather than manufacture until its closure in 1914. Their products are held in science museums worldwide.

The pince nez measure 7cm in length when closed.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. These pince nez are in excellent antique condition.
