This product is sold out

Sterling silver and freshwater pearl bracelet with an original 1889 Queen Victoria threepence charm, rose gold fill beads and a toggle clasp. I love old coins especially antique silver ones. They are often smooth after many years of exchanging hands and have a real feel of history to them.

This is a totally unique and special bracelet.

The British threepence was known as a threepence or threepenny bit and was first used in England during the reign of Edward VI (1547-53). All threepences minted from 1816 to 1919 were made of sterling silver and those produced between 1920 and 1946 were half silver, half nickel. These coins were often made into bracelets by soldiers serving in WWII to send home to their sweethearts.

Charms have been worn for thousands of years, not just for their decorative appeal, but often to symbolise good luck, love and spiritual forces. Charms were popularised by Queen Victoria which made them fashionable among the elite and wealthy throughout Europe. She also introduced the sentimental and romantic charm which could be seen in the charm bracelets she wore and those she gave as gifts. Charms continued to be a very popular form of jewellery throughout subsequent decades with World War II troops returning home with handcrafted trinkets for their loved ones.

The bracelet measures 19cm.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care.
