This stunning pearl necklace features a vintage sterling silver photo locket with a sterling silver oval spring clasp. The clasp easily opens so that you can add your own favourite charms or pendants, or use the whole clasp and pendants on another chain of your own.
The locket can be gently unscrewed at the top so that you can add your own photos to create a unique necklace.
The necklace can be worn with the clasp at the back for a luxe, classic look or the clasp and pendant can be worn at the front for a totally different look to compliment different necklines.
Container jewellery to house tokens and special items have been around since Egyptian times and the first “lockets” held medicinal herbs, religious relics, prayers or perfumes. Elizabeth 1 is thought to have owned one of the first sentimental lockets which was a ring depicting tiny portraits of both herself and her mother Anne Boleyn. Before the invention of photography locks of hair were often put in lockets to remind you of loved ones. The popularity of lockets as a keepsake grew with the widespread use of photography and endures today.
The locket is unmarked but has been tested for silver. It is 3cm in diameter and the pearl necklace measures 46cm.
This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This gorgeous piece is in good vintage condition.
