Lovely silver antique anchor brooch with beautiful hand engraving and a c clasp and pin indicative of the era. I have put the brooch on a modern sterling silver curb chain so that it can also be worn as a unique and unusual necklace as well as a brooch. The brooch is hallmarked Birmingham 1894 and has the makers mark T.W.
The anchor was a popular motif in Victorian jewellery. It represented hope, steadfastness and stability. Not surprisingly it was a especially popular with sailors and their loved ones symbolising their hope for a safe return from long voyages.
THe brooch is 4cm in length and the chain measures 50cm.
This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This pretty anchor brooch is in great antique condition.
