1909 Sterling Silver Watch Fob Necklace

$265.00

This beautiful necklace features an antique 1909 sterling silver watch fob and a sterling silver hand pendant on a sterling silver chain. The watch fob is blank on both sides. It is hallmarked Birmingham 1909 and has the makers mark WA for William Adams of Barr St, Birmingham.

A fob is an adornment or a seal that hung from the ribbon or chain of a Gentleman's pocket watch. Its purpose was to decorate or add weight to the watch chain. Watch fob pendants were often given as prizes or to commemorate a special occasion or event.

Hands have been used as jewellery motifs since ancient times. The Figa Hand was said to ward off evil spirits and in the Victorian era clasped hands in jewellery represented love, matrimony and friendship. This sterling silver hand is a modern copy of an old motif.

The fob measures 4cm x 2.5cm (including the bail), the total length of the hand and fob is 7cm and the chain measures 50cm.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This fob is in good antique condition.
