Vintage Needle Case Necklace

Vintage silver needle case on a sterling silver chain. The needle case has beautiful repousse detailing and is stamped 925 on the case and the original jumpring.

Engraved needle cases were often one of the components of a ladies chatelaine. A chatelaine was generally carried by the lady of the house and was a decorative belt hook or clasp worn at the waist with a series of chains suspended from it. Each chain was mounted with useful household items such as scissors, fruit knives, thimbles, watches, keys, small purses, stamp cases and pencils. 

The needle case measures 8cm including the bail and the total length of the chain is 60cm. 

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This needle case is in excellent vintage condition.
