Antique 1889 Sterling Silver Vesta Case Locket Pearl Necklace

$310.00

This unique necklace features a Victorian sterling silver vesta case, gold fill beads and pearls. It is hallmarked Birmingham 1889 with the makers mark M.B for Mitchell Bosley & Co of Bath St, Birmingham and is in great condition.

The pearl necklace has a contemporary sterling silver spring clasp so you can add your own pendants and charms to create a totally unique necklace. You can also wear the pearls with the clasp at the back for a classic pearl look.

Vesta Cases were small portable boxes used to carry vestas (short matches) and were carried by men and women alike. So called after the name of one of the early makers (which was taken from the goddess Vesta, a Roman deity of fire and the hearth), they came into use around the 1830s and were produced extensively between 1890 and 1920. Worn today vesta cases become unique lockets to hold memories and mementos.

The vesta case measures 3.5cm x 2.5cm. The total length of the pearl necklace with the clasp is 51cm.

This unique piece of jewellery may have signs of wear due to its history. It is beautifully imperfect and should be treated with love and care. This vesta case is in great antique condition considering its age. It has a couple of very small dents and the lid opens and closes perfectly.
